Pallet Flow Rack Systems in Greater Cincinnati
A pallet flow rack system loads from one aisle and picks from the other. Pallets travel down gravity rollers or wheel tracks with brakes controlling speed, so the first pallet loaded is the first one picked. That makes flow racking the cleanest answer when dates and lot rotation are not negotiable.
Lanes commonly run five to twenty pallets deep, which turns a handful of pick faces into a large amount of stored product. We lay out flow through racking around your throughput, your pallet condition, and the height you have to work with, then price it position by position.
How Pallet Flow Rack Works
Load side
Pallets go in at the high end of the lane. Each new pallet stages behind the one before it, so put-away is a single move in the load aisle.
Gravity conveyor
Full-width rollers or skate wheel tracks on a calculated pitch carry pallets forward. Pitch is set by pallet weight so movement stays controlled, not fast.
Speed control
Brake rollers and separators regulate travel and keep pallets from bunching, which protects both the load and the structure.
Pick side
Pickers work a face of first-in pallets. Pull one and the next indexes forward, so the pick aisle stays dense and organized.

Where It Fits Best
What We Need to Design It
- Do you need strict FIFO rotation, or is lane-level rotation enough?
- How many pallets per SKU move through in a week?
- What is the pallet weight range and pallet condition?
- How deep can lanes run in your footprint?
- Is the area ambient, cooler, or freezer?
What a Project Includes
Flow racking is engineered, not picked off a shelf. Pallet weight, deck condition, bottom board orientation, and lane depth all feed the roller or wheel selection and the lane pitch, so the first thing we do is pin down exactly what is being stored.
Then we set lane count and depth against your throughput. Fewer, deeper lanes maximize storage; more, shallower lanes give the pick face more SKU variety. We show both in the layout with position counts so the tradeoff is visible before you buy.
The itemized quote covers frames, beams, rail and roller assemblies, brakes, entry and exit guides, and any guarding. During installation the crew sets pitch, tests loaded travel in each lane, and adjusts brakes before the system is released to operations.
Afterward you have documented capacities, a lane map for your team, and a local contact for brake rollers and wheel replacements as the system logs miles.
