How deep should a pallet flow lane be?

Five to twenty pallets is typical. Depth should match how much of one SKU flows through in a cycle, since a lane that never fills wastes the pick face it occupies. We size depth from your movement data.

What keeps pallets from moving too fast?

Lane pitch is calculated for the load, and brake rollers or separators control travel. Pallets index forward at a walking pace, which protects the product and the frames.

Does pallet condition matter?

It matters a great deal. Broken bottom boards and heavy overhang are the usual cause of hang-ups in flow lanes. If your pallet pool is rough, full-width rollers are the safer specification and we will say so.

Can flow racking work in a freezer?

Yes, and cold storage is one of the strongest cases for it, since density directly reduces refrigerated cubic feet. Components are specified for the temperature range so bearings and brakes behave in the cold.

Do you install, or do we arrange that ourselves?

How Pallet Flow Rack Works

Gravity-fed lanes that load on one side and pick on the other for true FIFO.

Load side

Pallets go in at the high end of the lane. Each new pallet stages behind the one before it, so put-away is a single move in the load aisle.

Gravity conveyor

Full-width rollers or skate wheel tracks on a calculated pitch carry pallets forward. Pitch is set by pallet weight so movement stays controlled, not fast.

Speed control

Brake rollers and separators regulate travel and keep pallets from bunching, which protects both the load and the structure.

Pick side

Pickers work a face of first-in pallets. Pull one and the next indexes forward, so the pick aisle stays dense and organized.
